ナクソスの社長 vs 音楽評論家

　イギリスの音楽評論家、ノーマン・レブレヒト氏といえば、「巨匠（マエストロ）神話」「だれがクラシックをだめにしたか」などの著作で日本でも名の知られた人物です。そんな彼の最新刊「Maestros, Masterpieces & Madness: The Secret Life and Shameful Death of the Classical Record Industry」がイギリスで発禁処分になりました。ナクソス・レーベルのクラウス・ハイマン氏が「レブレヒト氏の記事の内容は正しくない」として「Maestoros～」の発売停止を求めていた裁判で、高等法院はハイマン氏の訴えを認め、出版元であるペンギン・ブックスに「Maestoros～」の回収を命じました。ペンギン社は今回の件について公式に謝罪すると共に、「Maestros～」の売り上げを寄付することも発表しています。現在「amazon.co.uk」で同書は「Currently unavailable」（「入手できません」）となっています。
　原告のハイマン氏はインタビューに対し「ジャーナリストが書いたほんの5ページの記事の中に、これほどまで多くの事実誤認があるということが、私にはとても信じられません。本当にショックでした。彼（レブレヒト氏）はレコード産業を全く理解していないと思います」と述べています。一方のレブレヒト氏は「今の私はこの件についてコメントする立場にありません」とのことです。

　ところでこのニュースを報じる「ニューヨーク・タイムズ」紙の記事の、ほんの一部を抜粋してみます；

　彼独特の「毒舌」を前面に打ち出した批評スタイルについても批判的に伝えています。確かに彼のやり方は同業者のあいだでも「賛否両論」なところがあります。「記事に正確性を欠くから、彼の書いた記事には絶対リンクを張らない」という人もいますし。でも私なんかは彼の文章を読むと（もちろん私が見ても判るような間違いがあったりすると気にはなりますが）「あぁ、ナンダカンダ言ってるけど、この人実は根っからのクラシック音楽ファンなんだなぁ」というのが垣間見えたりして、そんなに嫌いではなかったんですけどね。もちろん「ウソ」を書いちゃいけません。でも今回の件でレブレヒトの「毒」が薄まっちゃったら寂しいかも、とも思います。
