「'Great' conductor dies in Japan at 73」と書かれた見出しは、まさに最大級の扱いでしょう。
"...Maestro Iwaki first conducted the MSO in 1973 and was its chief conductor between 1974 and 1989. In 1990 he was appointed the MSO's first conductor laureate, honouring his contribution to its development and his role in bringing about two tours to Japan."
"MSO managing director Trevor Green yesterday described Iwaki as "one of the great conductors of our time . . . Many of our finest musicians were appointed by him during his years as chief conductor and his musical stamp on the orchestra remains today. This will be the real legacy that he leaves for us all in perpetuity...."
"...Many honours were bestowed on him during his career, among them Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France in 1990 and the Medal of Honour with Purple Ribbon in Japan in 1996. Monash University conferred on him an honorary doctorate of laws in 1986, and in 1991 appointed him as the university's first fellow of the faculty of arts."
"In 1995, the ABC Southbank studio was named the Iwaki Auditorium in his honour. The following year, the Australian Government promoted him to Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)."
